Last week saw the return of Peony Knight to the UK Pro Surf Tour and to the Highland Surf Festival. The event went off in near perfect conditions with light winds and solid 4-5 ft waves cranking over the granite reef at Thurso East. This often challenging wave didn’t phase Peony at all as she racked up the highest wave count and the highest single scoring wave of the women’s event.
Peony has been away from the tour for a while, focussing on international competitions but the lure of this infamous world class wave proved too much for her to resist. Her smooth forehand style outmatched Emily Currie, Lucy Campbell and Bonita Whitlock who, despite putting in a valiant effort, couldn’t keep up.
After a great year on the world stage, it’s fantastic to have a surfer of this calibre back on UK soil and performing well. We’ll be seeing more of Peony in the upcoming Night Surf, the final event of the year.
