Saturday night saw probably the post challenging Night Surf ever go down at Fistral Beach in Newquay. Strong onshore winds, sizeable surf, and of course pitch darkness made this a tense event. With the 2018 title up for grabs, it came down to the final heat and four of the UK’s top surfers to battle it out and crown the champion.
In bitterly cold darkness under the flood lights it was Luke Dillon on his home break who fought off tough competition from Reubyn Ash (the overall 2018 Tour Champion), Jay Quinn and Liam Murray Strout to take the win.
Going in to the finals it was clear that Luke couldn’t topple Reubyn from the top of the leaderboard, and as he admitted to Sam Smart in an interview just before the finals, “I’m just here to spoil it for Jay and Reubyn!”.
Congrats to Luke Dillon for his win at the 2018 Smart Parking Night Surf.
