The UKPSA Thurso Surf Festival 2016
Super Surf Series 1
Day: 2 – 28/10/2016
Due to an overnight continuation of howling Westerly winds toppling the morning swell, the 2nd day of The UKPSA Thurso Surf festival was relocated to the nearby left hand reef-break at Sandside. The oncoming procession of vehicles heading down through Scottish country-roads raised a fair few eyebrows as we invaded the small, local car park overlooking the slab.
Clean 3-4′ surf greeted our riders, with the sun rising over the highlands, creating a euphoric atmosphere as the official call was made to run with Round: 1 of the Under 16 & Under 18 Boys. Monopolising on the excellent conditions, this perfectly formed left gifted the morning’s competitors with short cover ups and critical shoulder sections for those brave enough to conquer the reef and catch the closest take-off.
Under 16 surfers progressing through to the Semi-Finals include Bude’s Kit Innes, (who also took the highest scoring wave; an 8.5 ride in the 2nd heat of the day) Patrick Langdon Dark (Swansea) & Seth Morris from Pembroke, who will go head to head in heat: 2. Heat: 1 will see Joseph Morris facing down Newquay’s Sol Hawkins & Barnaby Cox from Bude.
Going through from heats 1-3 in the Under 18’s will be; Ciaran Hughes (The Vale), St Ives’ Harry De Roth, Charlie Rio from Jersey & Logan Nicol representing St Agnes all competing in Semi-Final heat: 1
Competitors currently through to the Under 18’s Semi’s Heat: 2 are Kit Innes (Widemouth) & Noah Biersack from St Agnes.
A Low tide exposing the reef called an early end to the day with the last heat of the Under 18 Boys still to be surfed tomorrow morning as our surfers meet at the Thurso-East car park once again for an 8am start to our exciting Finals day of The Thurso Surf Festival 2016
