Thurso Surf Festival 2016
Super Surf Series 1 — Day: 1 27/10/16
The first day of the Thurso Surf festival was met with a pulse-quickening, clean 8′ swell as the top UK Pro tour & best Scottish surfers entered the water for Round: 1 of The Open division. Surfers initially rode the rolling giants in a reserved state, favoring prolonged rides to ultra-risky manoeuvres until nerves gave out to pure thrill and we witnessed more critical turns, an attempted ally-oop, and even a chop-hop mid-face, with the highest scoring wave of the day going to Jayce Robinson (an impressive 8.16)
A powerful, westerly wind threw some turbulence into the competition conditions favoring the local experience of our Scottish athletes who demonstrated some excellent surfing and saw Chris Clarke, Mark Boyd & Jacob Mellish advance through to the Quarter-Finals.
The Thurso Surf Festival continues tomorrow with an 8am check-in for our surfers and an expected build in swell conditions, adding to the excitement felt by the whole UKPSA events team & competitors at this world-class wave venue.
